Colin Polwarth (facilitating)

Colin Polwarth leverages his experience in urban design with the Royal College of Art (RCA) knowledge for his PhD of which this symposium is a part. Colin is a registered architect with over 25 years of experience in the design and management of a wide variety of projects. He is the Director of Studio Colin Polwarth a multi-award-winning practice that specialises in architecture, infrastructure design, urban design, master planning, and art through transdisciplinary processes.

Gareth Collins

Gareth is the Director for urban design at Transport for NSW, a landscape architect and urban designer. He has worked in transport authorities in Australia and Scotland and private practice in the UK. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects and a Recognised Urban Design Practitioner. 

He co-authored ‘Beyond the Pavement’ policy and is a recipient of the Australia Award for Urban Design for this.  He has driven an urban design approach to the NSW Government’s transport work over the last 20 years, influencing the design of bridges, statewide highways, Sydney’s motorways, maritime infrastructure and cycleways.’ 

Dr Timea Nochta (she/her)

Timea is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the Institute of Local Government Studies (INLOGOV) at the University of Birmingham. Her research focuses on networks and governance in urban policy and implementation relating to technological change, especially decarbonisation and digitalisation. She has an interdisciplinary background rooted in architecture and public policy, with additional training in urban geography. Her recent work includes studies on the governance of sustainability transitions in energy and transport, and digitalisation and digital twins in smart cities.

Dan Phillips

Dan Phillips is a Senior Research Fellow at The Royal College of Art. He is a designer and engineer with 30 years experience in developing innovative environments, products and services.

Dan studied at Imperial College and the University of Cambridge and is a studio leader at the Intelligent Mobility Design Centre (IMDC) at the Royal College of Art and a design strategist at Design Science Ltd.
